I had an audition yesterday! I rarely ever get to wear jeans and a tank to an audition but this one was strictly voice over so the outfit was whatever I wanted.
My ideal outfit would've jean shorts and then heels but if you want to ride a bike you need to make a few sacrifices to be safe. I could've worn a cute pair of flats or wedges if I really wanted to. It just would've taken a little extra work in the shifting. So I went ahead with my brown sneaks cus I can make my walk look just as confident without having to raise my butt a few inches.
I'm not exactly a fashionista so that bag is my go to on pretty much everything. I'm always toting a notebook, a bible, a make up bag, and water bottle so I like to have room. Plus it sits on the seat right behind my without issue.
Now to the meat! My audition. I have to say I'm a little disappointed in myself. I started out well enough. Went in picked up my sides and then went into the hallway to rehearse until it was my turn.
And I did rehearse. I even brought my head phones to I could record and then play it back to myself.
I did this for about ten minutes and I gotta tell ya I was sounding good. So good that I was starting to get bored.
'Well there's only so much one can do before they're burnt out on rehearsal.' I said to myself before heading back in to just sit and let my mind wander.
next I thing I know I am being called in to audition and I am not ready! Agh! It sounds so simple to just rehearse, know your stuff, and then chill. It should be. But I should never have let my mind off of that audition. My head should've been firmly in the game. Building my energy and my confidence. Even if I had to wait for 2 hours, I should've been mentally warmed up instead of cooling down cus being chill gets you no where. You want warmth to radiate through to whatever it is that's recording you.
If you roast a smore to perfection (the marshmallow not burnt but so hot and gooey that the chocolate has melted and you couldn't separate the three elements if you wanted to) you eat it right away. That's when it's best. You don't let it sit and cool off. It just doesn't give you that perfect 'mmhmm' feeling.
So when next time audition I will make sure to have myself over the fire right before I go in to ready, instead of preparing and then taking a break before I go in.
Time it out, know when I'll be going, and how long I'll need to truly be what the camera wants.
On the upside I had to one part in spanish and I think my spanish accent is pretty good. It was also a really fun part to do.
Creat on good people,
E.M.G.
